The Mission

The biotech industry is one of the most innovative, inspiring – and financially rewarding – industries in the world. Unfortunately, it’s also an industry significantly lacking in diversity especially with racial minorities, notably Black people. This disparity is mirrored within the life science communications field.

Why? No doubt access to opportunity plays a significant role.

At its core, this is why CanaleComm formed BE in Biotech: a program that can help provide more equal access to opportunities within our field. We are working with diligence and intention to instill equity within our company. And, given our deep reach and network within the biotech industry, we are hopeful we can help instill equity within our industry and community, too. Our mission for BE in Biotech is to be a step on the path towards equity and empowerment for people of color.

Our Positions

We are seeking interns for our communication, creative and finance teams. The program length will vary per individual but will range from three to six months. Likewise, hours can vary depending on the availability of the intern and the program need but will range from 20 to 40 hours per week. Interns will be paid $15/hr.

We are seeking a communication intern to work on a variety of exciting projects in public and media relations, investor relations, content development and patient advocacy.

The individual will work with and learn from an award-winning team of multi-disciplinary colleagues to write and pitch a variety of media across a range of biotech accounts. We are looking for an individual with passion for working in an innovative industry committed to improving the medicines available to patients worldwide.

You will participate in company-wide meetings and individual strategy and planning sessions with account management and help develop and pitch the stories shared with our client’s key audiences – investors, patients, physicians, employees, and more – across a multitude of press and social media outlets. You will be exposed to the many facets of the biotech and life science ecosystem, with the opportunity to learn and flex your creative problem-solving skills in the strategic communications process and expand your network in biotech.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Motivation and desire to acquire new skills in a fast-paced agency environment.
  • Passion, inquisitiveness and enthusiasm for learning the biotech industry.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions.
  • Must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality of corporate information.

  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills, and flexibility in writing styles for different focus areas.
  • Requires a basic understanding of social media.
  • Requires basic research skills and basic time management skills.

  • Be a voracious consumer of news in order to track industry trends relevant to client and life sciences industry.

The individual will work with and learn from an award-winning team of multi-disciplinary graphic designers and web developers to produce digital designs across a range of biotech accounts. We are looking for an individual with passion for working in an innovative industry committed to improving the medicines available to patients worldwide.

You will participate in company-wide meetings and individual strategy and planning sessions with account management and help visually develop the stories shared with priority audiences, including public-facing sites and a multitude of press and social media outlets. You will be exposed to the many facets of the biotech and life science ecosystem, with the opportunity to learn and flex your creative problem-solving skills in the strategic communications process and expand your network in biotech.

Required Skills and Qualifications

We are seeking a finance intern who is interested in learning and supporting the efforts of a small, but very active, finance team.

The individual will have an interest in supporting the accounts payable function and the billing function for agency clients. The position will support the staff accountant and senior accounting manager in many day-to-day activities of the finance department which could include:

  • All aspects of transactional accounting activity including accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, journal entries, bank reconciliations, invoicing and general ledger maintenance and analysis
  • Generation of billing in conjunction with account teams for designated accounts
  • Daily accounts payable, reviewing and reconciling work to ensure accuracy and completeness

Required Skills and Qualifications
